'My husband washes the cat's food bowl in the kitchen sink

Jan 25, 2024Jan 25, 2024

A woman has divided people after claiming her husband is 'disgusting' for washing up their cat's food bowl in the sink, as it's where they wash up their plates and cutlery

With all pets, it's important to keep them,as well as the environment around them, nice and clean but one woman is having issue with a habit her husband has for cleaning up after their cat, as it really bothers her.

The unnamed cat owner claims it's "revolting" that her husband washes the pet's food bowl in the same sink in their kitchen that they do the rest of the washing up in and instead wishes he would find somewhere else to clean the cat dish. However, many people weren't too sure if that was a reasonable request.

Sharing her thoughts online on Reddit's Am I The A**hole forum, the woman asked if she was in the wrong, writing: "AITA? My husband likes to wash the cats' food bowls in the kitchen sink.

"I think it's kind of revolting, even though he cleans the sink afterwards, to have that crusty leftover fish, not to mention the kitty saliva combined with whatever faeces the kitty has licked off his bum, in the same sink where I wash our cutlery and vegetables.

"I can see the logic of 'As long as you clean properly afterwards, there should be no problem' but I still find it unpleasant. He thinks I'm weird for finding this gross. I think he's weird for not acknowledging how disgusting this is. Oh and I forgot to mention the dish brush. So who is right? Am I The A**hole?"

Many people responded to the post, agreeing that the woman was 'wrong' about her pet peeve, with one person replying: "You are the a**hole, especially since he cleans the sink afterwards. It's a sink. It's where you wash things. If washing a bowl your cat's eaten out of disgusts you so much you shouldn't have cats."

"You have a cat. It's saliva and faeces are already on everything you own. The sink is not going to be any worse than the couch your cat sits on," another commented.

Someone else wrote: "If you stepped on a poop you don't cut your leg off or buy a new one you simply wash it and it's CLEAN. How hard is it to comprehend that..."

While a different user suggested: "I mean get a separate brush for sure, maybe make sure he wipes out the contents with a napkin before washing it so it minimalised the leftovers."

Others praised the husband for doing it in the first place, saying: "You're mad because your husband washes dishes in the sink? What is wrong with you?" and "Your husband cleans it after so who cares? Be glad he's cleaning."

Realising she is in the wrong and taking it in her stride, the defeated owner later comments: "Thanks for everyone reading and responding to my first AITA, even if it turns out I am indeed The A**hole.

"My husband and I enjoyed your comments, and he and our cat both feel vindicated. I will get over myself, and he will continue washing cat dishes in the kitchen sink as he has for the last five years to zero ill effect."
