Rebecca Trojanowski, a 2007 Riverhead High School graduate received her Doctorate in “Earth and Environmental Engineering” from Columbia University in July. After all her years of hard work and dedication she has reached her goal and her family is truly proud of her. Congratulations to you on your Doctorate!

Congratulations to Father Mike Bartholomew of Mattituck for finishing second in the M40 5000 meter and 10,000-meter racewalk at the 2023 USATF (USA Track and Field) Masters Outdoor Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina for the racewalking club team Raleigh Walkers, garnering All-American honors in his Masters age group that took place July 20-23. Congratulations to Cher Armstrong who placed second in the W35 5000 meter and 10,000-meter racewalks and was the 5thAmerican to finish in the W35 800 meter. She is also a Raleigh Walker.

The Butterfly Effect Project is now accepting donations for the upcoming school year “back to school supplies.” The need for composition books, subject notebooks, 3 ring binders, pencils, pens, crayons, scissors, glue sticks, hand sanitizer, construction paper, loose leaf paper, highlighters, tissues, wet wipes, multi color markers pencil sharpeners and rulers for the 2023-2024 school year. You can drop off the items at the office 1018 Northville Turnpike in Riverhead or contact [email protected]. Any or all donations are welcome through August 10.

As many as you know the founder and Executive Director Tijuana Fulford wrote a book last year, My Fabricated Truth: The Time My Mirror Deceived Me. This book explores the very layered issue of race within a family and our society. She is excited to announce that she is relaunching her book and will be touring locally both speaking and signing copies of the book. Be sure to check her out at Barnes and Noble in Riverhead, 1470 Old Country Road on Saturday, September 30 time to be announced. All proceeds from the copies sold at Barnes and Noble on that day will benefit “The Butterfly Project.”

There will be Thursday Night Entertainment in the Town Square, Downtown Riverhead hosted by Riverhead Townscape. Check it out on Thursday, August 10 its Kids and Family Night with Amazing Ivan, enjoying magic, illusion, and lots of fun activities. On Thursday, August 17 sponsored by Jim Wooten at 7 pm Beatles Tribute Band enjoying the glorious sound of the Beatles whom we all know and love the music.

On Saturday, August 12 from 11 am to 12 noon the Friends of the Big Duck will hold their “Annual Rubber Duck Race” on Reeves Bay. Families can watch from the lawn of the Flanders Men’s Club which is just down the access road next to the Big Duck. Admission is free, but the real fun is when you have a numbered duckie in the race. Each entry is $5.00 and $20.00 for 5 entries. Proceeds benefit the Friends of the Big Duck, a non-profit organization that is the steward of Big Duck Ranch. The ducks are launched at noon and there are prizes for first, second and third place. You do not need to bring a rubber duckie or be present to win. Pre-registration forms are available from the Big Duck. The historic Jamesport Meeting House is delighted to announce it will hold a concert by “East End Trio” on Saturday, August 12 at 7:30 pm. This popular local group is known for its unique arrangements of crowd-pleasing music from the 1960’s onward. Mike Munzer, Miranda Gatewood and Doug Morrow bring their signature style and music from Van Morrison, Tom Petty, Paul Simon, Johnny Cash, The Beatles and other hit makers. Showtime is 7:30 pm and ticketholders are invited to join the performers after the concert for a wine and cheese reception. Seating is limited and advance ticket purchase is recommended. The Greater Jamesport Civic Association Meeting will be held on Saturday, August 19 at 9:30 am at the Jamesport Meeting House. The community is invited to attend and a nice way to meet your neighbors.

Enjoy the event at Riverhead Polish Hall the “Polish Festival” is coming on Saturday, August 19 and “hope to see you there” says Lisa Dabrowski and her volunteers. The festival opens at 11 am to Midnight, inside and outside, enjoy traditional food, Polish handcrafted and Artisan vendors along Pulaski Street. Its free to browse the street festival, on site outdoor event $5, Polish Platter $20 (11 am to 5 pm) and Kielbasa Sandwiches $10. Enjoy the night life admission adults and teens $20, 12 years and younger $10, children under 5 free and cash bar day and night. Everyone is Polish that day! Sto Lat!

Mark your calendars and get ready as Flanders Fire Department will be celebrating 75 years of service. Join in their celebration on Saturday, September 30 with a parade that will line Flanders Road with many departments from the surrounding area and conclude with food and refreshments at Flanders Men’s Club. Be on the lookout as time approaches for more details coming.

Vendors wanted and the Riverhead Country Fair is currently accepting applications for this year’s fair is Sunday, October 8 from 10 am to 5 pm. If you are a local artist, have crafts or products check out the website: www.riverheadcountryfair.comwhere all the needed information is at your fingertips. They also accept online payments. Donna Young and her volunteers are working hard to make this year a great time for all.
